At the request of a reader, I’ve updated my supplements guide to include some basic blood testing. The tests are done by Life Extension.com, and those that I’ve listed include ferritin, a basic male hormone panel (includes free and total testosterone, estradiol, PSA, DHEA), and a combined chemistry panel and complete blood count.
I wanted to draw your attention here to the fact that Life Extension is currently having a sale on blood testing. The prices are absurdly cheap, especially compared to what you’d pay at a full-service clinical lab. (Of course, insurance pays that cost for many people.)
For instance, the basic male hormone panel currently goes for $56. The comprehensive chemistry plus blood count goes for a ridiculously low $26. You might pay a couple hundred bucks for this at a full-service lab.
Going the extra mile, fasting insulin and glucose are on sale too. Fasting insulin is a very important health marker, more so than fasting glucose even. A low fasting insulin indicates low disease risk; if it’s high, you need to get to work lowering it.
You don’t need a doctor’s orders for these tests; Life Extension takes care of that.
I was also surprised to find that there’s no extra charge to have your blood drawn at LabCorp, making these tests more of a bargain.
Check them out. As it’s about time for my annual check-up with my doctor who is not in my health plan, I just ordered the male hormone panel. I probably just saved $150 by doing so.
